What is the Currency Converter?

A currency converter is a tool that calculates the equivalent value of one currency in another using exchange rates. This converter uses the US Dollar (USD) as the base currency and calculates cross rates between any two of the supported 50+ currencies. It is designed for quick reference conversions for travel planning, international shopping, price comparisons, and financial education.

Currency Converter Formula

rate = USD_rate(toCurrency) / USD_rate(fromCurrency) result = amount × rate inverseRate = 1 / rate All currencies are first normalized to USD, then converted to the target currency.

Currency Converter Example

Convert $500 USD to EUR. USD rate = 1.0 (base), EUR rate = 0.9240. Cross rate = 0.9240 / 1.0 = 0.9240. Result = 500 × 0.9240 = €462.00. Inverse: 1 EUR = 1 / 0.9240 ≈ 1.0823 USD.

How to Use the Currency Converter

  1. 1Enter the amount you want to convert in the 'Amount' field. You can type any positive number, including decimals. The default is set to 1 for quick rate lookup.
  2. 2Select the source currency from the 'From Currency' dropdown and the target currency from the 'To Currency' dropdown. You can use the Swap button (⇄) to quickly reverse the conversion direction.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the exchange rate calculated?
Exchange rates in this tool are calculated using the US Dollar (USD) as the base currency. Each currency has a defined rate relative to USD. The cross rate between any two non-USD currencies is calculated as: rate = toCurrencyUSDRate / fromCurrencyUSDRate. For example, EUR to GBP = 0.7870 / 0.9240 ≈ 0.8518, meaning 1 EUR ≈ 0.8518 GBP.
Are these rates live or fixed?
The rates in this tool are reference/indicative rates updated periodically. They reflect approximate mid-market rates and are suitable for informational and educational purposes. For actual financial transactions such as wire transfers, forex trading, or international purchases, always use the current rate provided by your bank, broker, or a live forex service.
What is the bid-ask spread?
The bid-ask spread is the difference between the rate at which a bank or broker buys currency (bid) and the rate at which they sell it (ask). Financial institutions profit from this spread. This tool shows the mid-market rate, which is the midpoint between bid and ask. The actual rate you receive when exchanging money will typically be less favorable than the mid-market rate.
Why does EUR/USD differ from USD/EUR?
These are inverse rates. If EUR/USD ≈ 1.0823, it means 1 EUR = 1.0823 USD. Conversely, USD/EUR ≈ 0.9240, meaning 1 USD = 0.9240 EUR. The relationship is: inverseRate = 1 / rate. This tool shows both the direct rate and the inverse rate for your convenience.
What currencies are supported?
This tool supports 50+ major and minor currencies from around the world, including USD (US Dollar), EUR (Euro), GBP (British Pound), UAH (Ukrainian Hryvnia), JPY (Japanese Yen), CNY (Chinese Yuan), INR (Indian Rupee), BRL (Brazilian Real), CAD (Canadian Dollar), AUD (Australian Dollar), CHF (Swiss Franc), and many more from Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Eastern Europe.
